Dr. Hank Christen was previously a Battalion Chief for the Atlanta Fire Department and Director of Emergency Services for Okaloosa County, Florida. He served as Unit Commander for the Gulf Coast Disaster Medical Assistance Team (DMAT) and has responded to twelve national level disasters including the 2001 World Trade Center Attack. He has a Doctor of Education degree with a specialty in Human Performance Technology.
Hank Christen is a contributing editor for Fire House Magazine and has published over thirty articles in technical journals. He is the co-author (with Paul Maniscalco) of The EMS Incident Management System (Brady, 1998), and Understanding Terrorism and Managing its Consequences (Prentice Hall 2002), and Terrorism Response – Field Guide for Law Enforcement (Prentice Hall 2002). His latest book is National Incident Management System – Principles and Practices (Jones and Bartlett, 2009). He has been a speaker at national level conferences for the past twenty years. He was a member of the Department of Defense, Defense Science Board (Transnational Threats, 1997) and The U.S. Army Interagency Board for Medical Logistics. He was a member of the Executive Session on Domestic Preparedness, John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, as is currently an affiliate faculty member with The George Washington University Medical School, Auburn University and the Gordon Center for Research in Medical Education, University of Miami.
Hank Christen's experience in simulation research and development includes:
1.) Subject matter expert and scenario development for Stottler Heinke Associates Inc., San Mateo, CA. Developed EMS incident command scenario for a Phase I NIH proposal.
2.) Subject matter expert and scenario development for Zero Hour, America's Medic in collaboration with The George Washington University and Epic Games Inc. The project was sponsored by the National EMS Preparedness Initiative.
3.) Community College Educators' Perceptions of the Instructional Infrastructure Needed for High-Fidelity Paramedic Training Simulations. University of West Florida doctoral dissertation.
4.) Simulation developer and consultant for Fully Involved Fire LLC.
